Leafs/Stars talking trade
« on: January 29, 2010, 10:26:33 PM »

The Leafs and Stars are talking trade.  What I am hearing is the discussions revolve around Ribeiro and a mid-level draft pick for Matt Stajan and a decent defensive prospect.  Toronto may throw in an expiring salary to even out the numbers.  Talks are on-going

According to Darren Dreger, the Leafs and Stars are working on a multi-player trade.  I have done some digging, and from what I am hearing the discussions revolve around Ribeiro and a draft pick for Matt Stajan and a mid-prospect.  Toronto may throw in an expiring salary to even out the numbers.  Talks are on-going

When did dreger say this?????

I'm not sure when Dreger said this, but my source said it, and I just was sent a link that Mike Augello from Hockeybuzz.com posted that Dreger said it as well, i'd assume maybe Leafs Lunch?

And TCF, I am sort of confused too, I know the Stars are shopping Ribeiro because they want out of Ribeiro's contract (the Stars are trying to cut payroll a little), but I feel like Stajan isnt the player the Stars want.  With that said, he's the name im hearing

Fair enough, I wonder if another team would be willing to offer more? I really like Ribiero.

Wasn't Mike Ribeiro signed to a 5 year contract last year?

He has three left after this I believe, but Dallas has all these new young kids that have come out of nowhere, and Brad Richards has really established himself as a true #1 guy

Im just telling you what I'm hearing, I know the Stars ownership wants to trim payroll and I know Ribeiro is being shopped.  All I'm saying is that Toronto and Dallas have held discussions about the former Hab.

Stajan is an infinitely better player than Mike Ribeiro, and this simply isn't true.

The TSN dudes are saying it's NJ that has the most interest in Stajan.....and there is nothing happening with the Stars...

If guy's to a look at the  stars cap situation they would  see there is  really  no need to trim salary they are already  well under the cap...there is a cap floor...

Like I said before, Ownership wants to cut salary.  I mentioned Stajan and a throw in going the other way, meaning the cap floor is not an issue, but Ribeiro' $5 million would be off the books for the next three years
